Before Repair

Preparing for Service
This list is for a "complete install\re-install",
but will give you a general idea of what you’ll need to bring for most all services.
1. Operating system discs, system image
disc or a valid (legal) product-key
for your OS. These either came with your computer or you made the recovery discs
after you first turned your computer on. If you do not have these discs, don’t worry,
usually all that is needed is a valid product-key.
2. Installation discs for the software
you want installed\re-installed and
the appropriate product-key for each.
3. A list of the passwords for any password
protected accounts
that you want to be upgraded, re-installed or managed.
i.e. Windows password, MS live, offsite backup, cell phone and Email addresses.
*tk Computer Service will either inform you where to change your passwords
or change your passwords for you after the completion of the repair\service.*
4. Make, Model and Serial Number for all
the peripherals you want installed\re-installed.
i.e. Make: HP - Model: Deskjet 932C - S/N: 2984***
These items will usually include monitors, printers, keyboards, mice and the like.
You will not need to bring your Monitor, Printer, Keyboard or Mouse with you.
Unless, they require special setup or are a problem source.
*tk Computer Service will be happy to instruct you on where to find such information
per device or you’re welcome to bring the items with you and we will do it for you.
If pickup is requested we will gather all this information at that time.*
5. You will need to bring power cords\supplies
for laptops or peripherals.
Including, any device that requires chargers or non-standard power supplies\sources.
*Desktop power cords you can leave at home.*
6. A list of the files you would like
backed up.
We will try to encapsulate all pictures, documents, music and other media by default.
Emails are only backed up by request and only if they reside on the hard
drive of the computer, due to the high infection rate of these items.
It is up to you to make known to "tk Computer Service", the files you
need to have backed up.
There are absolutely no guarantees either expressed or implied against data loss
of any type,
due to the very nature of viruses and malware. Some files may be infected and
beyond recovery or backup, due to the risk of re-infection.
With that said, we do our utmost to backup all commonly saved files for you.
7. You’ll be required to sign a liability
release form and
to give a phone number for contact. You’ll be given a handwritten receipt for all
goods left
in our care, that will include the Make, Model and Serial Number for each item.
*A full install\re-install usually takes
anywhere from 3 - 5 days to complete,
depending on the complexity of the work required.*
